MOONEES: FROM STRUGGLE COMES SUPPORT
The Pandemic changed the trajectory of all of our lives. It was at that time that I switched gears from the Fine Art world to the world of Television and Film Production. One of my first jobs as background casting Director was on the first season of Fox’s ‘the Cleaning Lady’. My most recent productions are D.C.’s ‘Blue Beetle’ -for which I did all of the atmospheric casting and Ava Duvernay’s “Origin” based on the book ‘Caste: the Origins of our Discontents’ by Isabel Wilkerson. Shortly after that production was wrapped, the current Hollywood strike and accompanying work stoppage began.
As I sought a means to make an income during the strike, and a way to simultaneously contribute and help out my colleagues suffering from economic hardship during this hiatus, I discovered ‘the Entertainment Community Fund’.
The Entertainment Community Fund was founded in 1882 and has existed for over 141 years to meet the needs of our Entertainment Community and to help with the myriad challenges involved with a life in the Arts.
During the Hollywood strike, the ECF has helped creative workers on the picket lines by providing essential food , water and access to assistance.
This is why I have decided to partner with ECF and donate $5 for every single MOONEES product sold to the Entertainment Community Fund. This is my way of giving back, while trying to support myself during an extremely difficult time-both financially AND emotionally.
Please consider donating to ECF. Our Entertainment community needs our support.
If I have ever been there for you before, please consider purchasing one of these products, and show your support. I have never had to ask for help like this before, and this is difficult for me, but I see better times ahead. There is a light at the end of the tunnel. We will succeed.
If you can’t afford to purchase any of the merch that’s OK I appreciate you taking the time to read this message. You can also donate a couple of bucks directly to the ECF to win free merch. :)
Below is the official message from the ECF regarding our collaboration:
MOONEES: FROM STRUGGLE COMES SUPPORT
In times of struggle, laughter is the best remedy.
Professional Artist & Background Casting Director Jason D’Aquino’s new pop-parody illustration “Writers of the Last Arc” from his MOONEES series is a cheeky demonstration of love for the wonderful creative artists who bring our heroes to life on the big screen. He believes MOONEES give all of us a chance to speak up and show support and solidarity without saying a word. Actions do speak louder.
